(Please indicate if you do not wish your message to be printed). Donations can be made online, on behalf of Tim, to the NSPCC. Here are some messages we have received so far: 'Thank you Tim for leaving behind something that is immortal, your music and your spirit. Rest In Peace.' (Vedran Srdic ) 'I spent an evening with Tim Rose in Los Angeles in 1968. I was with the editor and his wife, John & Joan Bryan of Open City Newspaper, Charles Bukowski and God knows who else... we were at Barney's Beanery. Joan was trying to get me excited about this Tim Rose guy because I was in a band at the time but I never heard of Tim Rose. Then she said something about him writing Morning Dew and Jeff Beck had recorded it. Well that perked me up a bit. It was just about then that Barney kicked me out for being underage. "Now there's no more morning dew." Hey Tim, we hardly knew ya'!' (Derek Lamar) 'In this world of kareoke bands and "superstars" you are very sorely missed. Thanks for the memories.....' 'My wife and I saw Tim in St Helens in Lancashire a few years ago. She didn't know his music but became a convert that night. A neglected and great talent.' (Mike Rigby) 'I was privileged to see Mr Rose play in 2002 at a pub in Plymouth, England, where I live. I must confess that I was not previously familiar with his work, but I was intrigued by the bill poster outside the venue and the words "Hey Joe". It, of course, turned out to be a fantastic night. I am very pleased that another one of my favourites, Robert Plant, paid his own tribute by recording Morning Dew on his last album.' (Grant Wallace) 'What a shock…………I never knew Tim had died. I last saw him a couple of years ago in Market Harborough, England when he was supporting Robert Plant. I knew Tim many years ago in London, fond memories of many a bottle of his favorite red wine, in his basement flat by Chelsea Football Ground! God rest your soul Tim.' (Cee) 'I knew Tim in the middle to late 60s. Many times I saw the Big Three perform in the Village when I was between sets with my own group. Tim played on an album I did with the likes of Stills and Furay, which has been re-released as a Collectors Choice. I remember hoisting quite a few beers with Tim back then at the Dug Out on Bleecker Street next to the Bitter End. A nice person and a fine musician has left us.' (Rick) 'I'm Italian, my name is Claudio and I love the Voice of Tim. My English is very bad and I'm sorry to don't write some that my heart cry. Thanks for all.' (Claudio Scarpa) 'I have recently been planning a visit to London, and among the things I was looking forward to was a visit with my old college friend, Tim Rose. And now I hear he's gone. Friends, don't put off a chance to visit those whom you love. It is more important than you can guess.' (John Cray) 'So sorry to hear of the death of Tim Rose. During my years as a Rock and Roll disc jockey I fell in love with Tim's music. This was back in the day (early 70's) and the phones would always light up during airplay of Morning Dew or Hey Joe.' (Angus Mackay) Morning Dew grabs me as being so evocative that it had to come from a very deep and special person, and within him a special place. Thank you Tim Rose for your song, and all the others I'll learn about now that I know who you are.' (Bill Keenom) 'I don't know a lot of Tim's music but what I do listen to is fantastic. His version of Hey Joe is, and always will be a classic.' (Robert Mackie) 'Kind words and thoughts go out to all the family of Tim, a man who wrote and performed in particular two songs that will live forever: Hey Joe and Morning Dew. The latter will always be one of my favourites and will always appear somewhere in my repertoire. The warmth and passion in his performance is and will always be unique.' (Ray Dorset aka Mungo Jerry) 'It was a shock a few months back when Robert Plant announced just before he played Morning Dew that Tim had passed away. I met Tim in 1999 at a small club in Devon when he was touring with Arthur Brown. Tim struck me as an intelligent passionate musician, and a damn fine songwriter. I had always hoped to meet Tim again.' (Matthew North) Just sitting here listening to Eat, Drink and be Merry and feel Tim Rose is very much alive. Where Was I? was a song that rang in my head for years and years. We never knew a thing about Tim Rose the man, but his voice was one of our very oldest friends. Que viva Tim Rose! 'At Guilfest 2003 I stood at the front right through Tim's set, met and chatted with Tim afterwards. A genuine gent and will be sadly missed.' (Dave Parkes) 'You were the most wonderful man Tim, when I met you at Blackhheath Concert Halls. We thank you for Morning Dew and all the other lovely songs you have given to us. May you now rest in peace. We shall miss you Tim!' (Graham and Graham's Mum) I knew Tim and would like to thank him for encouraging me to get my songs published. He also put me in touch with Michael who gave me a lot of help and some good guitar lessons. ... if you are listening in Heaven maybe you might give me a few pointers from above and a little push from time to time to keep me motivated. I am sorry I missed you, but you will be forever in my thoughts, and I have your CD to listen to, so you will live on! Lots of Love Martina' (Martina Keany) 'I worked with him briefly in the 90's when he produced and then published a group called the Devas. Every year at Christmas time, I pull out my favorite holiday decoration - a Christmas card with Santa looking into a closet full of traditional bright red suits and one electric blue one. The caption inside read "Maybe this year", and was signed by Tim.' (Marie Louise Ferguson) 'I first got to know Tim Rose and his wonderful music through a Dutch documentary. Decided to go buy one of his CDs this very week. Then I found out he left our world on the 24st of September this year, the day my first son was born. Once the time will be there, I will let him listen to your songs, Tim.' (Rob van Iersel) 'He was a seasoned mentor, always encouraging me to get it all together and on the road ... miss you, pal' ( Dan Cazio, NYC) 'Tim I think was definitely one of the greatest, if not the greatest.Since I first heard him in the early eighties I still cannot get over the simplicity and the pristine beauty of his music, particularly Morning Dew and Come Away Melinda. Hey Joe is also an all time fav of mine. I live In Calcutta, India and it is hard to come by his CDs but I ordered on Amazon and got his album Through Rose Colored Glasses. I'll cherish this CD all my life. Through me at least twenty guys are now Tim's fans here in Calcutta. I would like to thank Tim for his music. He definitely is not dead. God Bless.' (Sanjit Ray) 'he was kind and funny and angry and impatient and caustic and devilish and flirtatious, so talented ...' (Karen Capelluto) We met in L.A at the end of the 60's. I couldn't have asked for a better friend. Last year, I found you via the web. Still the nice man ... still the friend. I'll miss you. (Hillary) I'm so sad that Tim has passed away. He was a good man. I will always remember our conversations back in the late 70s in London. I met Tim one inebriated night at J. Arthur's, a popular London night spot, in the 70's. He was wearing a black cape and looked like Zorro ! We first hurled insults at each other, and then became good friends. We were confidants and used to chat for hours on the phone sharing thoughts about music, people, the business. I will miss him. (Alan Merrill) Fare thee well my friend. (Bryan Ruth) 'Sorry to see you go, but your music lives on! (Sigrid Chilton) 'Didn't get to hear his music till five years ago. Tim's Cds have never been far from my player since. Very sad I never saw him live. Fantastic songs, brilliantly sung.' (Scott Ridley) 'Nov 11th I hear that Tim Rose has died. Everything comes back. Long drunken and sober nights listening to scratchy vinyl versions of Hey Joe, Morning Dew etc. Nearly got to see him perform at the Lobby in Cork a few weeks ago, but the gig was cancelled, and we said 'oh well, next time.' Thanks Tim for it all.' (Derry Chambers) 'I was lucky enough to see him play and chat to him at Normanton-on-Soar in August and will always treasure my signed copy of American Son. Wonderful songs and a very special person.' (NancyB) 'Tim was an inspiration to many people and a nice guy to boot. I will miss him.' (Sali Mustafic) 'A great musician who will be sadly missed.' (Jane and friends in Hull, East York) 'From the first time I heard "Morning Dew" I was hooked and it always saddened me that Tim Rose never found the acclaim that he so richly deserved. So much influence but so little honour. Perhaps if he had been prepared to compromise his musical principles then he would have found a wider audence, but he was never that type of artist.' (Jim Walsh) 'Tim was a very great friend of mine, and I will miss his humour as well as his music. I was on tour in Germany when I was told of Tim's death it was agreat shock to me and all my band, and we are sorry we could not attend his funeral. We would like to thank him wherever he now is for a lot of good times' (Norman Beaker) 'I am very sad to hear about Tim's death. One off the best songwriters from the last 40 years.' (J.W. van den Berg) 'This morning by coincidence I saw a part of a documentary of you ... I am sorry for you and those who loved and respected you, although you seemed not to be an easy guy, I think your heart was on the right place.' (Harry Weidema) 'Wonderful music thanks' (F. v. Geneijgen) 'Tim contacted me last year when he saw my name on a aviation cadet web site. He asked me if I knew where he might obtain a year book. It just so happened I had two of them and sent him one. He was overjoyed to received it and wanted to pay me for it. I did not accept his money, being happy that I could be of his service that way. Best wishes to friends and relatives of Tim. God bless you everyone.' (Jim Snoddy) 'I just want to say , another great singer songwrhiter left us to soon.' (Willy Convens) 'I'm so happy to have learned about your beautiful and touching music. Although it is bitter that it didn't happen earlier I do hope many more will come to know your music.' (blue bell) 'Although I'm quite of a Cave fan I've to admit that the original version of Long Time Man is the best I've ever heard.' (Geert Sieben) 'Being a younger contemporary (born 1945) and an historian, I became interested in the man and his songs. I am very sorry to hear that he just passed away' (Dr Louis Vos, Belgium) 'An end of a sad story that brought us so much beauty...' (Rob van der Veen) 'Tim had such an energy and passion in the songs he played. His voice sometimes veering on the unnervingly raw, grating, growl of a man having seen and lived life; such depth and insight, and at other times was so gentle, schoolboy like, as to invoke a vunerability so honest and true that one found oneself surrendering to the lullaby of it all.' (Will Hammond) 'I am so sorry to hear of Tim's death. My contact with Tim was not through his music, but his interest in WW2 Aviation, something we both shared.' (Yvonne Barnett) 'His warmth and generosity were rare qualities in the fickle world of entertainment, along with his intelligent conversation and great sense of humour. Tim was the kind of person I'd like to have known even better, but sadly I've been deprived of that opportunity. That said, what time I did spend with him made my life more interesting than ever before. Nice knowing you Tim.' (Elly Roberts) 'We are deeply moved to learn of the sad news of Tim's passing away to another dimension. We both had the privilege of listening to and speaking with Tim after one of his many gigs at the Trades Club, Hebden Bridge.' (Richard Sweetnam and Alison Milner) 'I really, really liked you and remember with fondness our breakfasts at the coffee shop opposite Lincoln Center' (Paul H) 'Another brilliant songwriter and musical talent taken from us. I will remember him through his inspiring music.' (Ron Steel,Scotland) 'I am very sad to hear about Tim's death. He was one of the most underrated songwriters of all time' (Ronn Lennon) 'I have only recently been introducd to Tims career and feel fortunate to at least have witnessed a couple of shows where his powerful voice, musicianship and humerous anecdotes have made an immediate impact on me. I was looking forward to seeing him again at the Borderline but sadly this will no longer be.' (Roger Button) 'So glad my 20 year daughter had the chance to see Tim a few months ago. We will both miss the commitment of the man. Oh that 12 string !' (Nick Brown) 'England was lucky to have him and I think he must have felt lucky to be able to thrive in England. The US will never know what it was missing.'(Don) 'I was so sorry to hear about the death of Tim Rose. His music shall however endure especially now that Robert Plant covered Morning Dew.' (Eric Montfort) 'Tim's smile was wonderful, just like him. He was warm, kind, present, and had the ability to make people feel comfortable around him. I was looking forward to spending time with him during his next trip to the states. I'll carry his smile in my heart.' (Dorothy Pimentel) 'A major shock. The first song sheet I ever bought was "Morning Dew". I got the opportunity to perform it with Tim Xmas 1999 which was an act of magnanimity I will never forget. A gracious man, aware of his worth and legacy, and now a significant loss.' (Tony Schofield) 'Tim, Bob Dylan once said that a lone man with a guitar could blow an entire army from the stage.Perhaps he was thinking of you? I only know you through your music and seeing you live earlier this year but would like to wish you all the best for your journey. The worid is a lesser place without your wise, truthful and insightful voice.' (Simon Martin) 'Our great friend Tim Rose was laid to rest yesterday at The Brompton Cemetery in London, overlooking a large group of brother soldiers, at the highest point of the cemetary, in full sun, near a grand big tree, with his head to the trains and - just behind - a huge sports ground. Ok, it ain't a baseball park but I think he's very pleased. The service was astoundingly moving and a beautiful release. During the burial service two trains passed and a Chinook helicopter roared overhead, I find that almost, er, signlike -in the American Indian sense, and it made me smile.' (Michele Stephens) 'Now there is no Morning Dew' (Andrew, New Zealand) 'My first encounter with Tim was when he and my late brother Rory shared the stage together with Tim, at a club called "Blaises",in '67 and many thereafter. Ironically, I last saw Tim when he performed at a tribute concert to Rory, in Buxton (Oct '97). That evening Tim played as good as ever and after we stayed in touch by telephone. May God bless Tim and all those who loved him.' (Dónal Gallagher) 'R.I.P. Tim. You lit this place up a few times! We will all miss you. Thanks for playing.' (Mike Lance, The Greys, Brighton) 'We often shared conversation at a sidewalk cafe on Columbus Ave. He seemed ever there with his broad smile and good words. His physical heart may have failed him but his spirirtual heart was big and strong. It makes me happy that he was able to return to performing his music. "Saving the best for last." My sincere condolence to his friends and family.' (Bonnie Smith) 'I was fortunate, not only to have listened to Tim's music, but also to have met the man. A few years ago he did gig in my area with Arthur Brown and they came over next day to have lunch and visit here. Tim found my piano and played. Arthur was up the hill and screaming! A momentous day. Tim will be sadly missed.' (Jeannie Crane) 'Just returned off holiday to hear this sad news, Tim Rose was a great live performer and such a very lovely man, who never seemed to forget a face he always remembered us and took time out to say hello whenever we went to see him play. We will miss him.' (Annie and Dave, Wrexham) 'Tim Rose was not only one of my closest friends whom I loved unmeasurably. He was also like a father, a brother and my most cherished spiritual mentor. Death comes as suddenly as birth. I can't believe he's gone. Farewell my old friend, till I see you again.' (Darius DiTullio) 'Tim was a great talent and writer. A voice of truth in the wilderness. His advice and wisdom will be something I'll have to learn to live without and I'll never be able to watch a baseball game again without thinking of him. Most of all, and I know I'm being terribly selfish, I miss my friend. Thanks for everything, Tim.' (Lew Wernick) 'There was so much we could have talked about. Silence now. Just an abiding memory of a moment in time. We all file into the dark in time; you filed in too soon Tim. You missed the sunset.'(Tony and Jane Hill) 'Thanks for your wonderful music and stories. We will miss you but your music will live on.'(Nev and Jan) 'I will miss my dear friend Tim. Beneath that tough-as-nails exterior was a sweet, passionate and caring person who will be missed by many. God bless you, Tim. Bon voyage.' (Elliott Randall) 'We were all honoured when we heard this legend was to play our club, on the Causeweay Coast of North Antrim, only a few weeks ago now. He certainly made many new friends that night with his warm, friendly, generous manner and it was a thrill for myself and Sabine, and I know for Michael E. Thomas too, when we were all invited up to share his encore numbers. He was a big man in more ways than one, and anyone who was at the club that night would have been looking forward to seeing him again. It was a treat and a real privilege for us all to hear his tales of wonderful days gone by. We were are all saddened to learn that we will not see him again.' (Dick Glasgow and all at the Black Nun Folk Club, Northern Ireland) 'Tim, Bob Dylan once said that a lone man with a guitar could blow an entire army from the stage.Perhaps he was thinking of you? I only know you through your music and seeing you live earlier this year but would like to wish you all the best for your journey. The worid is a lesser place without your wise, truthful and insightful voice.' (Simon Martin) 'to see Tim perform was like having him in your living room and you were with friends. Since the late sixties his music and humour have ben part of my life. There will always be a dim light a burning.'(David Glassman) 'Coming from very different backgrounds helped us both when swapping funny stories, we were both guilty of embellishments just trying to out do the other on the punch line, having said that, he always managed that final funnier line than me, I never forgave him. Who do I swap funny stories with now?' (Trevor) 'Thank you for your music! I wish you the best...' (Markus Rucksteiner) 'The world of music will sorely miss his talent and we will all miss his good humour and wonderful voice.' (Louise Fennimore, Noel Gay Artists) '"Once he was..," but to all those whose lives he touched, however briefly (mine included) he will always be - the music and the man will live on in us. Thank you, Tim.' (Nigel Birch) 'I was very sad to read of Tim's passing. He was a lovely man and will be sorely missed.' (Deirdre Dickens) 'Tim delivered a storming performance to an appreciative audience in our venue last year, and we hadn't completely given up hope of getting him back again. Wheels turn, and Glastonbury mourns.' (Alan Bertrand, Glastonbury Assembly Rooms) 'I sorted out Tim's residence visa for the UK, which was a bit of a struggle initially. We had several meetings and he was always jovial and polite, and we got there in the end (which he knew we would). Take care, Tim.' (Steve Richard) 'Tim was a decent man in the world of music. On 2 or 3 occasions I wrote to him requesting "chord notations" to songs of his and asking where I could buy certain guitars that he had used, and each time Tim came back straight away with an amiable reply and took the time to annotate chords, point out tunings he'd used to great effect, signed CDs for me, told me where to find the "right" guitar &c. - and with a degree of humility it is rare to find in the world of music.' (Paul Evans) 'his immortal versions of 'Hey Joe' and 'Morning Dew' have resonated down through music history' (Mark Prendergast) 'I will miss you Tim, your music, your smile and your warmth. Thank you for being my friend and a part of my life.' (Marianne, Norway) 'Timmy you are the Man. God bless you Tim, I'll miss you.' (Julian Wolfendale) 'I certainly admired what I learned of his great accomplishments in the arts, and I listened like a little kid whenever he regaled me with stories of his famous friends. But it was today that he and I shared when we were together. He supported my artistry with great respect (I am a clown) and honored me with his friendship and his caring. What more can anyone ask, really. Tim was my friend and I didn't expect this shock. He told me he loved me this spring on the phone from England. I love you too, Tim.' (Barry Lubin, New York City) 'Our condolences & sympathy to all who knew this great musician, from all at World Unlimited' (Graham Radley) 'Tim helped me when I was looking for my Aviation Cadet Class book. To finally meet you and work with you this year was a privilege. Your memory and music will live on' (John Montague) 'My first thought upon hearing this tragic news was how Tim touched my life... My condolences go out to all those who knew and loved him!' (Jason Young) 'Tim through his music gave me many hours of pleasure and joy. When I saw him sing Blue Steel 44 at Perriana in Spain, I was blown away, it was awesome. Thanks Tim, the goddess will guide you where ever you are.' As the Irish saying goes, "ni feichimid a leithid aris" - we will not see his like again.' (George McFall) 'Not many people make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I see them play.. You certainly did Mr Rose. I will miss your voice.....' (Chris Meikle) 'We have lost a great friend, and a musical legend.' (Yvonne and Martin Hughes) 'Tim came down to visit us first about five years ago, it was great for us to get to know him, work with him and have the opportunity to see him on stage frequently in that time. He was a remarkable performer and criminally under-rated. We'll miss him.' (Simon and Andy, Brook Guitars) 'May your spirit soar my friend. Thank you for the laughs, the love, the deep thoughts and the music. In the life of each day, you are the Morning Dew.' (Michele Stephens) 'Tim was a real friend. Always thought of him as 'larger-than-life' & I believe he is. The world will be a little duller without his light.' (Maria and Markuu Isotalo) 'Tim inspired many people, I am one of them, many more than he could possibly have known but hopefully he will now. To watch him overcome problems, reinvent himself and as he would say keep 'putting one foot in front of the other'. Tim Rose had a huge heart and he gave so much to other people.' (Patti Webb) 'You were So Rich, You will not be forgotten, God bless and thanks for the time you gave us.' (Trevor, Sharon & Charlotte Neal) 'Totally unique, totally unpredictable, totally wonderful! I hope he knew how much he was admired, appreciated and LOVED! He was a good friend!' (Judy Hexberg) 'we went out on a high on that last show in Dublin. Those there will never forget it. And what a great city to go out on! We both thought about having a little base there as we headed back for England. I'm proud to have played and written with you.' (Michael Winn) 'I will miss you Tim, your music, your warmth and your lovely e-mails. "Once he was a hero ..... once he was" Tim - you will always be a hero to me.' (Janet Crame). 'He had a unique voice and a great sense of humour. We will remember him with lasting fondness. Have a good gig in heaven Tim.' (Mike Shepstone and Peter Dibbens) 'I found him an immensely likeable man - good humoured and confident in the way that so many Americans are, but also modest and vulnerable. I didn't know him well but I'll miss him.' (Mark Brend) 'He used a song of mine (Broken Song) on his American Son album and made a lovely job of it. His last email to me said "I am sitting on the banks of the river Liffey in Dublin". This is how I will remember him.' (Tony Harper) 'Tim, I shall always remember the words of wisdom that you passed on to me and the laughter we shared.' (Kirsty Roberts) 'Tim and I were friends for over four decades. And a grand lad he was, too!' (Roger Perry) 'Tim was a great friend. I'll never forget all those times we sat and had coffee on Broadway and 63rd . I kiddingly called him the Mayor of Broadway, because he knew so many of the passers-by. I will miss him terribly.' (Larry Fishman) 'Tim refused adamantly to be categorised - either as a folkie, blues guy or good old R 'n Roller. He was none of these - they broke the mold after he was born 62 years ago yesterday.' (Miranda Ward) 'I can only say it has been such a privilege to have worked with such a well respected and talented man. I found him to be a perfect gentleman and I'm lucky enough to call him a friend. Such a shame it wasn't for a longer period of time.' (Peter Bullick) 'My first show was supporting Tim, and he helped so much, was so kind, and very funny. Your Music will live on forever.' (Rob, Artists2Events) 'I respected how he overcame the many challenges that life threw up at him. In life he was a loner but only now that he has gone on, will he know how many friends he had, who will miss the irascible, little boy lost, sometimes brash New Yorker but never dull - our friend Tim Rose.' (Jonathan Rowlands)' 'He will be sadly missed but luckily for all he leaves behind a fine body of songs.' (Stuart Basford) 'Tim, you were right - this isn't a dress rehearsal. And what a class act you were.' (Patricia Toward) 'His music brought me and my family so much joy' (Veronika Ijzermans) 'I will miss you very much, you always had a kind word for me and my family, you are a very special man. I will remember you for your wisdom and sense of humor, and of course your music.' (Michael S Mena) 'He was a great guy. His death came as a great shock to me. He died too early.' (Ron Ellis) 'A true gentleman with a great voice and a lovely person to know.' (Shaun McCarthy) |
